Ongehoord: new issue on Chaos, Revolutions, Cultural Memory, and Menstruation

For those enthusiastic HHP students who like to read some of their fellow students’ academic work, Ongehoord brings you our latest issue! If you have not been able to pick up a physical copy yet, you can now also find it online: https://en.ongehoordjournal.com/oude-uitgaves.

The process of leading the Ongehoord editorial board towards a final, complete issue is one of much creativity and, of course, chaos. After all, most of our meetings in 2020-2021 had to take place on Teams, and that has been quite the challenge. That is exactly why we are extra proud of this issue. This issue is also a special collaboration between the previous editorial board and the new one. The 2020-2021 editorial board put in some amazing work setting up this issue, and our new 2021-2022 board was here to pick up where they left off. With so many of our previous editors having graduated this past year, the new editorial board is full of fresh faces. As such, we can be grateful to many editors for this wonderful issue! We hope you will enjoy reading these articles as much as we did.

With chaos having been such a big theme this past year, Monice Tobi’s article about the origins of the word in classical mythology serves as a suitable article to kick off this issue. After that, Max Trommelen introduces us to the Mabinogi and Welsh cultural heritage. On a rather different note, Joja Bos presents us with a little big history of metaphors of menstruation. This same topic of menstruation will be highlighted in an interview conducted by Patrick van Oosterom, with two members of the Period Project group. Ronneke Nieuwenhuis then takes us to the world of the popular game “Piano Tiles”, looking at it from a musicology perspective. And, finally, Teun van Kasteel takes us through the events of the “Donetsbekkenrevolutie”. All in all, a set of very diverse but all incredibly interesting topics!

Let this issue serve as a lovely reminder of our previous board, and an introduction to all our new editors as well!
